Aim and Scope:

Recently, medical imaging provides major aid in many branches of medicine and enables and facilitates the capture, transmission and analysis of medical images as well as provides assistance towards medical diagnoses. Medical imaging is still on the rise with new imaging modalities being added and continuous improvements of devices’ capabilities. Soft Computing techniques involve different methodologies such as Fuzzy Set Theory, Neural Networks, Genetic Algorithms, Support Vector Machine, and Rough Set Theory. The capability of these techniques to incorporate imprecision and incomplete information and to model very complex systems makes them a useful tool in many scientific research areas. Needless to say, medical image processing is one of these areas. This special session will focus mainly on the problems and applications that deal with the medical imaging using Soft Computing techniques as an emerging research area.

The aim of this special session is to attract researchers and practitioners from academia and industry, and provide, in a friendly atmosphere, a discussion forum in order to share their experiences in soft computing techniques for addressing the challenges in diverse researches in medical applications. The especial session will be organized and technically sponsored by the Scientific Research Group in Egypt (SRGE). Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

**Soft Computing Techniques:

Support vector machine and kernel substitution

 Data sampling and reduction techniques

 Neural networks and fuzzy logic

 Rough set techniques

 Genetic algorithms

**Application Domains:

 Feature extraction and pattern recognition

 Multidimensional data visualization

 Intelligent medical imaging systems

 Computational anatomical atlases

 Noise reduction and enhancement

 Edge detection and segmentation

 Image compression and matching

 Surface and volume registration

 Medical image motion analysis

 Multi-modal image analysis

 Biometrics image processing

Paper Submission:

The session seeks for original, unpublished, and high-quality research papers. The authors are invited to submit their contributions formatted as IEEE double columns. Submitted papers will be refereed by at least two independent reviewers for quality, correctness, originality, and relevance. All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceeding, and will be submitted for indexing in IEEE Xplore digital library, EI Compendex, and ISTP. The authors are kindly requested to submit their manuscripts electronically to the following email addresses: (aawad@ieee.org), with cc-ing to (aboitcairo@gmail.com), with the subject title as: “Soft Computing for Medical Imaging – Special Session”. Latex is the preferred editing tool.

Important Dates:

* The special session deadlines are aligned with the schedule of the main conference.
