NortheastGenAI 2026 is the first workshop dedicated to AI-assisted research on Northeast India. The region is home to over 200 languages across eight states – many endangered, almost entirely absent from NLP and computational linguistics research.

Inspired by Agents4Science 2025 at Stanford University, we adapt the model for one of the world’s most linguistically diverse and underserved regions.

Tracks:

T1 — Language, Culture and Heritage

Low-resource NLP, ASR and MT, Script and OCR, Oral traditions, Folklore, Indigenous knowledge, Digital archiving

T2 — Society, History and Anthropology

Community structures, Migration and identity, Oral history, Ethnography, Indigenous governance, Gender studies

T3 — AI and Technology for NE India

AI applications, Low-resource models, EdTech, GovTech, Digital infrastructure, Multilingual systems

Guidelines:

AI-assisted or AI-generated with mandatory disclosure

Maximum 4 pages excluding references

Any standard academic format

Non-archival

Maximum 6 pages (single column) or 4 pages (two-column), excluding references
