The 1st IEEE International Workshop on Cognitive Cellular Systems(CCS) will be held on a cruise ship along the most beautiful part of the Rhine River, Germany in September 2014. CCS is a new workshop for aggregating the recent research and development on cognitive radio technologies for cellular communication systems, in particular regarding the role of Cognitive Radio for 5G, from both industry and academia. We invite you to submit original technical papers for presentation at the workshop, and for publication in the conference proceedings. To meet explosively growing demands for high-speed mobile broadband access, many efforts have been done on the development of Long-Term Evolution (LTE) cellular systems and beyond. Another mainstreaming focus is on research and standardization of small cell solutions, in which low-cost base stations or access points are deployed with the aim of offloading a large portion of wireless data traffics, especially in hot spots and indoor environments. It is increasingly challenging to acquire adequate spectral resources in radio frequency bands to operate such macro and small cellular systems. However, all over the world, a large amount of spectral resources have been utilized in a static and therefore, low efficient manner. Hence, Cognitive Radio, with the capability to be aware radio environments and flexibly adjust its transceiver parameters, has drawn much attention in academia and recently also in industry and has been proposed as an enabling technique to dynamically access the underutilized spectral resources.
The motivation of this workshop is to bring together researchers and engineers from both academia and industry to present their cutting-edge solutions on Cognitive Cellular Systems (CCS), especially regarding the relevance of Cognitive Radio principles for 4G and, in particular, 5G systems. We solicit papers covering various topics of practical relevance, including but not limited to the following:

PAPER SUBMISSION
Papers are invited to be uploaded on the EDAS-system. The manuscript must follow IEEE two-column format with single-spaced, ten-point font in the text. MS or LaTeX templates can be downloaded here. The maximum manuscript length is five (5) pages, including all figures, tables, references, and so on. Accepted and presented papers will be published in the conference proceedings and submitted to IEEE Xplore as well as other Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) databases.
CALL FOR SPECIAL SESSIONS
The 1st International Workshop on Cognitive Cellular Systems would like to invite renowned scientists in this field to organize special sessions, which should focus on cutting-edge topics within the scope of Cognitive Cellular Systems. IEEE CCS 2014 will disseminate these sessions on the workshop website. It is expected that each session will attract 3~6 invited papers. If interested, please send in a session proposal to organizer@ccs2014.org. The proposal (maximum of two pages) should include the interested topic(s), timelines, and a brief biography of each possible presenter as well as contact information.
