Introduction

————

Traditional Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have tremendous applications ranging from environmental monitoring, home automation, health care, forest fire detection, wild life tracking, and intrusion detection, to monitoring structure of the bridges. These WSNs use fixed spectrum assignment policy and their performance is limited due to limited processing and communication power of wireless sensor nodes. In addition, these wireless sensor networks require high bandwidth and their QoS requirements are application specific. Wireless sensor nodes with cognitive radio capabilities (i.e., Cognitive Radio Sensor Networks (CRSNs)), can help to address these challenges. Furthermore, CRSNs improve the spectrum utilization, and multiple overlaid sensor networks can be deployed in a specific region. Thus, it has several research problems which need to be addressed.

Objective of the Book

———————

In this context, we plan to edit a book on CRSN, which gives a broader picture on the applications, architecture, challenges, and open research directions in the area of CRSN. In addition, the proposed publication will serve as a single source of reference for acquiring the knowledge on CRSN.

Target Audience

—————

This book will serve as a reference book for graduating students. Additionally, this book can also be served as a textbook for graduate students in courses such as Wireless Sensor Networks, Cognitive Radio Networks, and Wireless Emerging Technologies.

Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

——————————————————————

– Cognitive Radio Sensor Networks (CRSNs)

– Advantages of Cognitive Radio Sensor Networks

– Applications of Cognitive Radio Sensor Networks

– Cognitive Radio Sensor Network architecture

– Deployment strategies of CRSNs

– Dynamic Spectrum Management in CRSNs

– Wireless Body Area Networks in the context of CRSNs

– Layers in CRSNs (physical, datalink, network, transport, application) — Developments, Issues, and open areas

– Conclusion and future perspective

Submission Procedure

——————–

You are invited to submit a 2 to 3 page manuscript proposal clearly describing and explaining the topic of the proposed chapter before July 15, 2013. The proposal should include the chapter summary, table of contents, and contact authors. All submitted proposals will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by July 20, 2013 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter organizational guidelines. The authors of accepted proposals are expected to submit their manuscripts of their completed chapters on September 15, 2013. The reviews will be sent to the authors by November 15, 2013. This book is anticipated to be released in 2014.

All submissions should be emailed to crsn.submission@gmail.com.
