Then this conference, which takes place on December 3rd nearby Stockholm and collocated with the Artemis-ITEA2 cosummit 2013,
is the right place to be!
The conference has two main goals:
1. Providing a meeting place for Interoperability
Specifications (IOS) related efforts, fostering better
communication between the networks, and
providing a first step towards a common understanding
of the main IOS related challenges to overcome.
2. Proposing and discussing ways forward to achieve
sustainable interoperability for embedded systems
development.

2nd European Conference on Interoperability
Your proposal should be formulated as an abstract, max 1 page, which for your intended presentation states,
(i) the type of experience,
(ii) where and how it was gained,
(iii) how it may be of value to a wider community.
(iv) if you include a demonstration,
(iv) provide a contact person and name of presenter
Abstracts describing presentation proposals will be reviewed and selected for presentation by the conference committee. Abstracts and presentations will be made openly available.
BACKGROUND: The evolving functionality and scope of embedded systems based products is challenging current development paradigms by involving more and more specialists, often in distributed teams, that make use of a wide variety of tools, and generate a multitude of information that needs to be appropriately managed. The information produced as well as the tools, are heterogeneous, reflecting the different concerns and diversity of the involved stakeholders.
This conference is concerned with promoting interoperability among such heterogeneous tools and information artefacts.
The potential gains in achieving cost-efficient interoperability are enormous by reducing waste in trying to find information, providing standardized methods and techniques to set-up or maintain (previously ad hoc) integrations, paving the way for new added-value services such as change analysis, providing new market opportunities for tool vendors, reducing lock-in allowing end-users to choose preferred tools, etc.
Achieving interoperability is however a complex task sometimes appearing as a ‘catch 22’ setting. Progressing towards sustainable interoperability will require establishing some suitable level of consensus regarding how to achieve integration, pushing standards and creating a momentum for
adoption.
Given the strong industrial needs to overcome current integration problems, a multitude of efforts are now addressing interoperability. They range from industrial efforts, commercial developments, Artemis research projects such as Crystal, iFEST and MBAT, or other initiatives and organizations such as Eclipse, OMG and OSLC.
The conference provides a continuation of the Artemis technology conference held in March 2012.
