Artificial intelligence for software architecture (AI for SA), as an emerging area of research, aims to synergise AI solutions and SA practices to instill intelligence in the processes and tools of architecture-centric software engineering. This special issue seeks submissions focused on the application of AI methods to architect software systems – reporting innovative solutions, empirical studies, tools, technologies, and socio-technical challenges of AI for SA.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to the following:

Empirical Studies on AI for SA

– Industrial findings and experience reports

– Empirical studies and metrics

Process, Patterns and Frameworks to support AI for SA

– Reference architectures

– Architectural description languages

– Architectural patterns and styles

– Architectural refactoring

– Requirements engineering for software architectures

– Architectural frameworks

Tools and Technologies to support AI for SA

– AI agents for software architecture

– Large language models for software architecture

– Generative artificial intelligence for software architecture

– Development Bots and software architecture

Note: In line with JSS policies, submissions consisting of surveys, literature reviews, or mapping studies on the aforementioned or related topics will not be considered for this special issue

– First-round notification: May 30, 2026
