The special issue will primarily focus on novel theoretical
and/or experience with practical software-level solutions that advance
the research in energy and thermal management of real-time systems.
Soft- and hard-deadline real-time systems will be considered equally for
the special issue. Realistic applications as testbeds are also of particular
interest, examples of which include cyber-physical systems, medical
applications, and sensor networks. Results from real system
implementations will be favored over those from simulation. Of particular
interest are approaches and applications of energy management in
real-time systems to include, but not limited to:
• Energy-aware operating systems for embedded systems
• Energy and thermal-aware techniques for scheduling, memory
management, and quality of service
• Energy reduction in communications over sensor networks
• Cluster-level virtualization, consolidation and load balancing
techniques
• Dynamic frequency and voltage scaling
• Risk mitigation of deadline misses for demand-based strategies
• Techniques for reliability using energy/thermal metrics
• Case studies of energy and thermal management in real systems
