Call for contributions — Web Studies 5 (WS.5)
“The Generative Web: GenAI as Interface, Infrastructure, and Ecosystem”
We are pleased to announce the extended call for contributions for the 5th edition of the Web Studies conference, which will take place on 21–23 October 2026 at the Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale in Alessandria, Italy.
WS.5 invites interdisciplinary work on the changing relationships between generative AI and the Web. We are especially interested in contributions examining GenAI as: an interface to the Web (prompting, conversational search), a layer of infrastructure, a mode of production (synthetic media, automated web generation, creative and design practices), and a political economy: attention, labour, rights, governance, trust, sources, and visibility.
Submission formats include full papers, short papers, posters, demos, prototypes, panels, roundtables, workshops, tutorials, and artistic, design, or practice-based contributions.
Deadline for abstracts/proposals: 22 June 2026
